Newsletter 11th of Feb – The farm is growing

Hello friends,

We’re hoping you’re able to feel the early vibrations of spring, even as we’ve hit sub zero temperatures this week. The weather is a reminder that little in life is truly linear. Just a few weeks ago we were sowing our first seeds of the year, thinking about all the people in our community we’ll be feeding through the summer months. Despite the icy blasts, things continue to grow. And so we have a few exciting bits of news.

Meet Naomi

The Soul Farm team has grown! Naomi Hannam is our new part time grower and on-field volunteer liaison. Alongside gardening, she is a forest school leader, community artist and creative facilitator. We asked her what she likes best about working at Soul Farm and she said: “Work with people that have shared beliefs in growing beautiful, delicious, earth friendly food in a way that nurtures community. That said, I love planting seeds and arriving in the early to pick the BEST salad and edible flowers under the moon.” Get to know Naomi through our interview with her here.

We’re hiring!

We’re expanding our operation quickly this year and need to recruit a Delivery Driver and Market Stand Manager. The role is two days a week (Fridays and Saturdays) and involves delivering our CSA boxes to our drop off locations as well as door-to-door for our solidarity boxes on Fridays (van provided). Fridays also involve preparing for the Saturday market alongside other Soul Farm staff. They will set up the stall, sell to the general public, pack down and check inventory. Find out more here.

We’re in the hungry gap

We’re in the part of the year where there’s not a lot ready for harvesting on the farm and we’re having to buy a lot in for our boxes. But we’re really proud of the partnerships we’ve made with other farms that share our vision. We see this arrangement as a way of helping each other while keeping you in good veg. But hang tight, we’re looking after the plants and they’ll be looking after all of us.

Tell your friends

Knowing that the food is coming, we need to secure where it’s going. We’re at the halfway point in our bookings for this year’s CSA veg box scheme, running from May 2021 to February 2022. There’s a price tier for everyone. Those who order on the top tiers help us to fund the lower tiers. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, book your spot here. And please let your local friends know about us.

The Food Barn Tregew

We’ll be at The Food Barn as usual this Saturday 9-1. We’re offering a mix of ready to go boxes for those who want to grab and go and loose veg for those who prefer a selection.

Keep going,
The Soul Farm Team
